The results of a comprehensive noise measurement survey of port related noise sources impacting schools and residences in the Community are presented along with preliminary conclusions and findings. The next step will be to use the data from the measurement survey to develop noise impact criteria and noise zone maps. Noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH), also known as noise and vibration (N&V), is the study and modification of the noise and vibration characteristics of vehicles, particularly cars and trucks. While noise and vibration can be readily measured, harshness is a subjective quality, and is measured either via "jury" evaluations, or with analytical tools that can provide results reflecting human subjective .

Subjective Rating Scale for Vehicle Ride and HandlingJ_ This SAE Recommended Practice establishes a rating scale for subjective evaluation of vehicle ride and handling. The scale is applicable for the evaluation of specific vehicle ride and handling properties, for specified maneuvers, road characteristics and driving conditions, on proving ground and public roads. Also included is the subjective evaluation of electric vehicle noise samples with admixed virtual noise shares, which may be used to mask disturbing noise shares or to give a more dynamic impression. Finally some criteria for possible target sounds of electric vehicles are Size: 2MB.

technique, for transforming the subjective test technique from an “approximate” diagnostic tool to an exact measurement. Measurements Measurement of the background noise In each of the 9 cars under tests, preliminary measurements of the interior noise, at various speeds, were conducted.

Introduction. Noise results directly from inferior vehicle design giving rise to large structural vibrations or poor cabin insulation. In order to eliminate noise, the source, transfer path and receiver have to be investigated by noise measurement and analysis, customer feelings about noise have to be studied, and the root causes of the noise need to be by: 1.

THE MEASUREMENT OF NOISE INSIDE CARS 71 The tests were performed on a section of the M6, south of the Knutsford service station.

The section was approximately 30 miles long, included no severe gradients and had a uniform road surface. Any effects of adverse weather conditions were eliminated by making measurements only on fine by: 6.

During production of new vehicles, automotive manufacturers rely on Faurecia to test their seat frames and motor controls to achieve specific noise and vibration goals.

Accordingly, Faurecia required the new hemi-anechoic test chamber to meet the ISO standard for transmissibility, including a target base-ambient sound level below 25 dBA.

A Survey of Sound Quality in the United States Automotive Industry Gordon L. Ebbitt Lear Corporation Auto Club Drive Dearborn, MI Abstract The concept of sound quality (SQ) has been used in the U.S. automotive industry since the ’s. Early studies were part of an effort to understand why some vehicles sounded better (and.

Long-term measurements, using fixed devices, in order to give an indication of how noise nuisances change over time; Medium-term measurements, in order to evaluate the improvement following a change to an infrastructure, an urban redevelopment, or following a change in legislation.

Nuneaton, Warwickshire, England (Received 12 March ) With modern techniques, the measurement of sound is extremely easy, but it is not so easy to measure noise in such a way as to agree with human response to by: 1.

Figure 1. SAE recommended practice for subjective rating scale for evaluation of noise and ride comfort characteristics related to motor vehicle tires [28]. Park et al. Abstract: The existing evaluation methods and indexes of noise of electric motors cannot comprehensively reflect all the physical characteristics of noise of hub permanent-magnet synchronous motors (HPMSM) and human subjective sensations.

In this paper, a method of the sound quality (SQ) evaluation of HPMSM for electric vehicles is by: objective evaluation and these divisions are discussed below [5].

Data Collection A simple data recording protocol is formulated to record the noise level inside the car. A measurement mannequin is used to place the microphones and the wirings as per ISO (E) Acoustic- Measurement of noise inside motor vehicles standard [10].File Size: KB.

Hearing in Noise Test Objective measure of speech-in-noise performance was obtained with the HINT (Nilsson et al, ). The spectrum of the noise stimulus on the HINT was matched to the speech spectrum of the male talker used in the test.

The noise was modified to be continuous, and its level was fixed at 75 dB SPL(C) while the level of the. The evaluation of car sound systems is usually done both by means of objective measurements (frequency response, distortion, etc.) and by listening tests.

The latter are particularly long and difficult, because it is necessary that the subject seats on each car and listens to a pre-defined music sample, played though the sound system.

Furthermore, it is difficult to take into account the noise. The sound quality of vehicle interior noise 1 Introduction The passenger of a vehicle has to be seen as part of a vibro-acoustical system. Consequently, the subjective judgement of pleasantness or sound comfort is influenced by both sound and vibration.

For a task-orientated proceeding in sound File Size: KB. For measurements of noise immissions, presently the equivalent level L eq is used. L eq represents the level of a stationary continuous sound with the same sound energy as produced by a noise immission with time‐variant level. Hence, the L eq concept is based merely on a physical magnitude, i.e., sound energy, and lacks a solid psychoacoustic background.

Therefore, together with Eberhard Cited by: 1.Loudness among psychoacoustic metrics is used for one of major sound metrics for the objective evaluation of the sound quality of the acceleration sound inside a car.
